I had the privilege of facilitating a team building program in Miami recently that really hit home for me in terms of how corporations and organizations can contribute to the health of the communities they live and work in.

After a morning of team building challenges in which the key organizational learning points of honesty, trust, communication and leadership were featured, the team was divided into smaller groups and one member from each group given a tutorial in how to navigate using a hand held GPS. After successfully reaching the first waypoint the group member had to “teach forward” the GPS navigation skills to another team mate and so on throughout the duration of the exercise.

Each successful destination was rewarded with tokens which groups then used in negotiating their resources for the final phase of the day. The resources were various bike parts which had to be properly assembled into 8 brand new mountain bikes and presented back to the group for judging.
